Environmental studies combines the scientific study of environmental processes with the study of human interaction with the natural world. During this semester we will focus on four themes surrouning climate change: I. Causes, II. Consequences, III. Solutions, and IV. Policy.
Service Learning:
Service learning is a major component of this course, what better way to learn about environmental issues than in your own community? See the tab on the left for more information.
Pheasant Branch Work Days (4/20, 5/4)
Works days last from 9-12 am. We will work cutting out invasive species such as sumac. Please wear sturdy shoes (no sandals!), long pants, and glove if you have them.
Directions to Pheasant Branch: From Century Ave. in Middleton, at the stop light at Century, Donna Drive and Frank Lloyd Wright, turn north (Copps Grocery Store and Starbucks Coffee, etc. entrance to Middleton Hills). At the first stop sign, turn right onto Pheasant Branch Road. Continue 1.2 miles to the Dane County Parks sign and county parking lot just past the mailbox at fire sign 4864. Some directions take you to Old Creek Road at Century but it is difficult to turn there at commuter travel times. For anyone coming from the north, west or northwest, take West Beltline (12 & 18) to Hwy K, turn east on K, turn south on Pheasant Branch Road where K curves left. Continue about a mile to the Dane County parking lot on the left. You will see the big hill east of the lot.
